Dr Mark Vukovich is a certified specialist in Orthodontics. Born and raised in Thunder Bay he attended Hillcrest High School and Lakehead University. After 2 years study at Lakehead he was accepted at the University of Western Ontario , Faculty of Dentistry.
While in dental school he worked for the materials research team under Dr Ron Jordan and received the Operative Dentistry research award upon graduating with honours in 1985. The following year he worked as a medical education resident in dentistry at the London Hospitals. This rotating internship included time at Children’s hospital of Southwestern Ontario (Victoria campus), St. Joseph’s Hospital and University Hospital. During his residency Mark helped organize a dental mission and equip a dental clinic on the Island of St. Vincent.
Mark worked for one year in Thunder Bay as a general dentist with Dr. Marlene Bloom and was accepted to the University of Western Ontario Graduate program in Orthodontics achieving the title of Master Of Clinical Dentistry in Orthodontics in 1989. His research thesus was immediately published in the prestigious American Journal of Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopedics.
Mark joined Dr. Reijo Peltoniemi and Dr. William Mercer of Thunder Bay as an associate orthodontist till 1992 when he and Dr Peltoniemi built their joint practice on Red River Road where they practice today. They together provide a full spectrum, modern orthodontic and dento-facial orthopedic / surgical practice.
Mark is a member of the Thunder Bay Dental association and was president of the TBDA in 1999. He is a member of the provincial and national dental associations (ODA and CDA) as well as the provincial and National Orthodontic associations (OAO and CAO) as well as the American constituent and National associations (GLAO and AAO). He received an award of Merit from the Ontario Association of Orthodontics for his work developing one of the first and best original orthodontic websites for the OAO back in 1995.
Dr. Vukovich and Dr. Peltoniemi, remain integral member of the Bloorview MacMillan craniofacial team through the northern clinics with annual collective sessions and local patient care here in Thunder Bay.
Mark’s hobbies and interests include Sailing, Boating, Snowmobiling, antique cars and all aspects of camping.
